Dear Parents and Friends,
The Feast of the Assumption takes place next Thursday, 15th August, and is a Holy Day of Obligation. The whole school will attend Mass at 10.00am to celebrate the taking of Mary into Heaven, body and soul. As always, parents are very welcome to join us at the school Mass.
The Feast of the Assumption celebrates the taking of Mary into Heaven, body and soul ….”honouring her entire body as giving glory to God. It is an apt liturgical moment to reflect on the goodness, the sacredness of the body. Too often, people have the notion that it is only our soul that is of value in spiritual growth. On the contrary, the body is a vital gift and a great help in drawing us nearer to the Holy One. Mary’s body was an essential part of her motherhood. Mary’s womb carried the tiny seed of Jesus and brought him to birth…….Like Mary, our bodies are an essential part of our life with God. Let us keep this in mind as we go through the day, noticing how what we see, hear, say and touch can draw us closer to the Holy One.”

We did it again! We have been selected to perform in the Finals of the Wakakirri Competition! We were informed of our success on Monday and announced the great news to the Year 5 students that morning. The children are “beyond excited”, as described by their teachers, and can’t wait to perform again at the Canberra Theatre on Tuesday 3rd September at the Awards Night. Details with regard to ticket sales will be forthcoming soon. Congratulations to all the students and the teachers and parents involved. We are immensely proud of you, excited for you and wish you every success. Most of all, we hope you will have a lot of fun!
This week, students from Years Kinder to Four were treated to an Indonesian experience at school. The incursion was called “G’Day Asia” and everyone certainly enjoyed the performance and learned much at the same time. Special thanks to Mrs Chilver for organising this wonderful event for the students.
Open Meeting of the Community Council
On Wednesday 14 August at 6pm there will be an Open Meeting of the Community Council. The meeting will take place in the library and everyone is welcome. If you have questions or an item you would like to raise, please let us know via the school office email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Major Fundraiser for the School
This year, Rosary is hosting the Catholic Schools Netball Carnival on Saturday 19th October. This is a once in a 20 year opportunity for our school to raise significant funds as the responsibility for hosting this carnival is shared around our Catholic schools. Please be aware that this is not a fundraiser for netball – it is a fundraiser for the school and the carnival is the medium through which the funds are raised. This is a huge event on the calendar for the Catholic schools in our system and requires a great deal of support from staff and parents to make it a success. It can be thought of in terms of a sports carnival and a fete all in one! Various committees have been formed and contact persons for each committee have been established. The committees are: Catering, Draw and Teams, Sponsorship and Vendor Management. If you would like to assist on a particular committee please let us know. If you would like to help but are not sure how, please let us know as there are plenty of jobs to cover. If you have particular skills or own a business, or know someone else who does, and would like to contribute, please let us know. There are sponsorship and donation opportunities in return for advertising. Of course, we will need as many helpers as possible on the day for food service and to run stalls and assist with the carnival in a number of other ways. Please keep the date free for our school! If you would like to make contact reagrding the Carnival, there is a designated email address to use. The email address is CSNC2019@cg.catholic.edu.au.
We will be acknowledging the dedicated service of Mrs Morris and wishing her well in retirement with some form of farewell in the near future when she is available to attend. Details will be forthcoming soon.
Thought for the Week:
“Pray to be ever ready for God’s will even when it takes you by surprise.”

Bookweek is almost here! This year's Bookweek theme is Reading is my Super Power. We conduct a Scholastic Bookfair in the Library as part of Bookweek (August 19-23). The Bookfair will be in lieu of Bookclub for the first half of the term. Bookclub will resume as normal in the second half of the term. Students and families can purchase books from the Bookfair during that week (week 5), with 50% of all sales returned to the school in free books!! Additionally, there will be a dress-up day on Friday, August 23. We will discuss this with the children during Library times. Please know that this event can be as simple as dressing up as a 'normal' character from a fiction book or as detailed as having your child dressed as a specific character from a book. There is no competition...it is merely a day to celebrate all that is wonderful about BOOKS! Our only requirement is that each child needs to have the book their dress-up relates to. Please see either Jodie or myself if you are having trouble securing a book that relates to your child's dress-up character.

Netball Carnival Request
WE NEED BOXES! LOTS OF BOXES!
Our Catering Committee will need approximately 150 A4 copy paper boxes (eg. Reflex paper boxes or the like) to prepare team lunches for the Netball Carnival in October.
It would be a great help if anyone with access to these boxes (with lids), either at home or in their workspace, can bring them in to the school so that we can set them aside in preparation for the carnival. Please bring as many as you can - we will be continuing to collect all term!
The Rosary Netball Club train on the netball courts after 3.30pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This is a reminder to parents to please not park on the courts after this time to allow the children to train safely.
Carpark safety is of the utmost importance at the school. At school drop off and pick up, we ask that all drivers entering and exiting the carpark please drive slowly and carefully at all times and only park in the designated areas.
Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
