Clare Tomac, Yohanna Tirwa, Hunter Bamber, Jasmine Mackay, Jules Bingley
Finn Barrell, Imogen MacPherson, Axl Ravanparsa, Maddy Erba, Ben Armstrong, Max Conlin, Yetsho Dorji, Nicholas Tomac, Pippa Kee, Valentina Quinones Pinto, Vihana Kulharia, Reece Bingley, Robin Fryar, Myles Box, Christian Rego, Mikayla Ryall, Matilda Kee and Chloe Wright.
A friendly reminder that all students are expected to bring a library bag (any bag) to and from school to protect our valuable and expensive books. Even a short stint in a school bag with a cold drink bottle with condensation can render a book destroyed.
National Simultaneous Storytime
National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual event in Australia. Last year over 2.2 million children participated. Rosary has been participating in this exciting event for many years now. Each year a book is selected and read to the students at the same time, 11am throughout Australia. This year’s book, ‘The Speedy Sloth’ looks at the importance of running your own race, setting your own goals and resilience. Students in Kinder and Year 2 were invited into the library at 11am to participate in the reading of ‘The Speedy Sloth’. Students were entertained by the rhyming narrative of Rebecca Young and enjoyed the colourful, engaging illustrations of Heath McKenzie.
This year, Year 1 was fortunate enough to be invited to the ACU Library to participate in the National Simultaneous Storytime. The students and teachers had a wonderful time. A big thank you to the ACU library staff and education students for preparing and providing the students with fun book related activities.
Congratulations to Eve Andonovski who is the winner of our school level competition in Rostrum Public Speaking. Eve did an excellent job of presenting on the topic “Going Backwards”. Alexandria Arndt was awarded status of runner-up with her speech on "Libraries" and will represent the school should Eve not be able to attend the quarter-final.
Congratulations to these students who also presented excellent speeches on a variety of topics on finals day: Hannah Tansley, Lucas Valdivia, Lucy Greenaway, Tihana Vatavuk, Oliver Davidovic and Max Pedregosa.
We also extend a special thank you to our judges. They had a very challenging time deciding on a winner to continue to the next level and represent the school at the quarter-final as all the entrants presented with such confidence and composure. Well done to all the school finalists. We are very proud of you!
This Wednesday, the 24th of May, sixteen students from Years 5 and 6 competed in the Canberra heat of the Kid's Lit Quiz. The Lit Quiz is a global contest that is run each year for children between the ages of 10 and 14 that celebrates the 'sport of reading'. Students are quizzed on a range of subjects about different books and authors with questions ranging from 'According to legend, who opened a box that unleashed evil into the world?' (Pandora) to 'Who was the great bowman that stood his ground and slew Smaug the Dragon?' (Bard the Bowman).
The students visited Merici College to compete against more than 30 other teams from primary and high schools all across Canberra, including our territory champions from last year!
I am proud to report that the teams from Rosary did an excellent job! One team winning a prize for the top score in the category of 'Rock and Stone' and several children winning cash prizes for the quickest answer!
If your child is in Year 4 or 5 and enjoys reading they should consider coming along to see what the Lit Quiz is all about, or talk to Mr Evans for some more information!
Council met on Wednesday 17 May after deferring the 1st meeting of Term 2 for 2 weeks due to staff absences. Reports were received and discussed as usual from the Principal (John O’Brien as Acting), Finance, Fundraising and Teaching/Curriculum. We discussed the Enrolment period and the numbers attending Open Days. The major items of discussion were based around updates on the Grounds Masterplan survey, the 60th Birthday celebrations and the upcoming Open Meeting. As of the time of the meeting 50 families had responded which is a great result at this stage or the consultation process. The survey information received will provide input, along with results of workshops held with other groups (staff, Council, student representatives, the Rugby Club) and observations from visits to other schools etc, to committee meetings to discuss further. The 60th Birthday celebrations are being coordinated with ACU and the Parish to optimise involvement as we all celebrate the anniversary together. Planning continues. Finally the agenda was set for the Open Meeting 6:30pm on Wednesday 7 June. The agenda will cover our standard reports, Finance, Fundraising, Principal, Teaching, and Parish and updates will be provided on the Grounds Masterplan and 60th Birthday celebrations. There will also be an opportunity for questions. Please consider joining us and participating in the meeting. RSVP for catering purposes rosarycouncil@gmail.com

Financial Assistance for Extracurricular Activities
The Rosary Community Council has established a fund to support students to participate in extracurricular activities where their family may be experiencing financial difficulty. This fund has been established based on the philosophy of giving a Hand Up to these families through providing funds towards participation fees. If you wish to be considered for support through this fund please access the information and application form at (Website link here). The deadline for applications has been extended to 24th May 2023.

If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
The school counsellor, is available every Thursday and Friday.

After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service.
