Principals Report Week 9 Term 1
Dear Parents and Carers,
Disco
Last Friday night the students came together for a fun filled evening with their friends at the school’s Easter disco. There was much energetic dancing throughout the night and smiles all around.
A big thank you to Catherine Garreffa, Justine Tansley and all of the Year 3 parents who were on the organising committee and who helped out on the night. The evening ran very smoothly and a wonderful dinner was enjoyed by all in between sessions. A special thank you to Melissa Thornton from the Rosary Canteen for catering the night.
Retirement News - Mrs Vincent
After 25 wonderful years at Rosary our Librarian Mrs Vincent has decided to retire. Sandy has done an amazing job promoting all things library and literature. We would also like to thank Sandy for her work with Rostrum Speaking, Chess Club and competitions, Aero Club and for hosting our students in the Library at lunchtimes. The children, parents and staff will miss her energy, passion and fabulous Book Week costumes. We wish her a wonderful and relaxing retirement.
Next term Mrs Jodie Dawson will be teaching in the library four days a week.
Author Visit - Dr Vanessa Pirotta
Rosary was very fortunate to have a visit from ex Rosary Student Dr Vanessa Pirotta, Australian wildlife scientist and author on Monday. Vanessa shared her inspiring work and story with our Year 5 students who are currently working on a unit about Antarctic Fauna. Vanessa also personally signed preordered copies of her book The Voyage of Whale and Calf. What a wonderful experience for our school.
YEAR 3 LITURGY
Tomorrow, Thursday 30 March, Year 3 will participate in a Liturgy at Holy Rosary Church at 10am. All welcome!
PROJECT COMPASSION
Thank you to families who have already donated to project compassion. Your donations to Project Compassion enable Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
We are encouraged to put our compassion into action this Lent through prayer, fasting and almsgiving by supporting Project Compassion. Each classroom has a Project Compassion box for donations. All donations will be greatly appreciated!
HOLY WEEK LITURGIES
The students will participate in a Liturgy to commemorate the events of Holy Week on Thursday 6 April at 12 noon in the quad. All welcome!
Thursday is also the last day for raising funds for Project Compassion. To boost our efforts, students are invited to come in a splash of colour that matches the theme of their grade’s liturgy in exchange for a gold coin (or more) donation.
Colour themes (splash of colour) per grade:
- Kinder and Year 6: Palm Sunday (green or bright colours)
- Year 5: The Crucifixion (dark colours - red/black/grey or navy)
- Year 4: The Last Supper (neutral colours - beige/grey/brown or white)
- Year 3: The Agony in the Garden (dark colours - purple/black/grey or navy)
- Year 2: At the Tomb (neutral colours - beige/grey/brown or white)

Library News - Farewell from Mrs Vincent
The word is out! I am retiring after over 25 years of loving my job in Rosary PS Library! It’s not that I don’t still enjoy my Teacher Librarian role, it’s just time for me to do all the things ‘retired folk’ do. I’ve survived three floods through the Library and five Principals in this time! I want to thank the thousands of children and families who have made my job the most rewarding and magical one I have ever had! Of all my teaching jobs over the years, the role of Teacher Librarian has meant I have seen students grow emotionally, spiritually and academically over many years. What an honour!!!
I leave Rosary in the very capable hands of the wonderful Mrs Jodie Dawson. We share a committed passion for children's literacy and literature. Jodie is super excited to be working the four days the Library operates.
I leave behind some wonderful initiatives- chess club, aero club, lunchtime Lego, wonderful Library monitors and an art collection worth over $23,000. (Each year, a children’s author/illustrator’s art is purchased for use for class studies or to admire).
Thank you to my beautiful students who have made coming to work such a joy!
Sandy Vincent
Last Monday, year five had the privilege of attending a talk about Antarctica (with special emphasis on whales) from world renowned scientist Dr Vanessa Pirotta. As an ex-Rosary student she was equally excited to be back in her old primary school, 23 years since her graduation. Vanessa was an absolute delight and enthralled students at the school assembly and the year five students with her poise, knowledge and enthusiasm as a passionate wildlife scientist. We had over forty students purchase her CBCA honoured picture/non fiction book ‘The Voyage of Whale and Calf’. It was such a joy to see Vanessa and congratulate her on her hard-won successes as well as see the students engage so positively with her!
