Principals Report Week 7 Term 1
Dear Parents and Carers
I hope everyone had a good Canberra Day long weekend and had a chance to spend time together as a family.
Principals’ Study Tour in Finland
I have taken the opportunity to go to Finland from 16 March 2023 to attend a Principals’ Study Tour. The study tour gives principals and attendees an overview of the Finnish education system and role of pedagogical leadership. The program introduces the founding principles in Finnish Education management and leadership and how it is implemented in action. Each day there are key presentations by local experts as well as school visits. There is a good balance of theory, data and school practice.
I will also spend some time on Long Service Leave after the conference until the end of the term to visit other locations in Scandinavia. I look forward to sharing information from this professional experience with our community next term.
NAPLAN Assessments begins this week
Good luck to our Year 3 and Year 5 students who undertake NAPLAN assessments over the next week. The NAPLAN data provided parents and teachers with important information about students.
Swimming Carnival this Friday
Thank you to Mrs Elizabeth Fryar for all of the work she has put into organising this carnival to start the sporting events off for the year. I know the students are very excited about the opportunity to participate in swimming events or novelty events. They are also keen to cheer for their sports house and have a fun day. Thank you also to the parents and carers who have volunteered to assist with the various tasks on the day.
Reminder About Morning School Start Time and Supervision
Please note that the daily supervision of students by school staff commences at 8.30am and finishes at 3.30pm. No child should be on the premises before supervision begins in the morning as they will be unsupervised. Please make private arrangements for the care of your child if your circumstances make this difficult or enrol your child in OSHClub before school care. In the afternoon, if we are notified that a parent will be inadvertently delayed, of course, children will be supervised until the parent takes over their care.
Congratulations to Sophia Lemke (Year 5) Selected in Australian Futsal Team
Sophia Lemke has been selected to represent Australia for the sport of futsal as their goal keeper for the under 12 girls team in an international competition in Spain in June/July 2023! Sophia is a very determined player and always attacks the ball to defend any shot taken in her goal. She played 6 games at Australian National titles and was selected as the best Goalkeeper in Australia in her age group. Sophia has a passion for the sport like no other, and is a great teammate and supports and encourages all her teammates.
This trip will be even more special for her as it is in Spain where her mother grew up and she has never been to Spain before and that would give her an opportunity to meet great grandparents at the same time as representing Australia.
We are so proud of her and look forward to seeing her wear the green and gold colours and do Australia proud. Sophia’s family are seeking support to meet the financial obligations of travelling to Spain for the championships. Any donation is greatly appreciated and will help this young girl's dream come true in so many ways. Please see the link below where donations can be made.

I look forward to giving everyone an update on Sophia’s training and preparation in the lead up to her heading off to Spain!
2024 Enrolment Period - 1 May 2023 - 26 May 2023 (Weeks 2 - 5 Term 2)
It is hard to believe that we are starting to plan for next year already! Please spread the word about the upcoming 2024 enrolment period for Catholic Schools. Dates for open school sessions will be advertised shortly and we look forward to welcoming prospective students and their families to Rosary.
I wish everyone a wonderful last few weeks of Term 1 and a safe and Holy upcoming Easter period.
God Bless.

Library News - Author Visit Monday, March 27- Dr Vanessa Pirotta
It is with much excitement that I can announce that Rosary Primary School is hosting a visit from Dr Vanessa Pirotta, Australian wildlife scientist and author in the school Library on March 27 from 9am. Vanessa is going to be speaking with our year five students who are currently doing a library-based inquiry unit about Antarctic fauna.
Parents would recognise Vanessa as Australia’s foremost authority when discussing whales and dolphins in the media. She is known for her work in wildlife conservation and her ground-breaking use of drones to monitor whale health. Vanessa is passionate about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and the importance of getting knowledge and content out to inspire the next generation!
Vanessa has also written a new picture book The Voyage of Whale and Calf. Last week, Vanessa’s book was honoured by the Children’s Book Council of Australia for its accuracy of information, book design and excellence in the non-fiction writing genre. Further to this, I have been able to secure 65 copies of her book for pre-sales for the day. If parents would like to pre-purchase a copy which Vanessa will personally sign, an order form will be coming home via Compass soon.
Vanessa is a past Rosary student (and Library Monitor), so I’m beyond enthralled with her achievements on the world stage!
