Principals Report Week 4 Term 1
Dear Parents and Carers
Year 6 Camp Next Week
Good luck to our Year 6 students and staff for their camp to Berry, New South Wales, next Wednesday to Friday. The students will participate in a range of outdoor education activities at this New South Wales Sport and Recreation facility. This is a wonderful opportunity for this cohort to establish themselves as school leaders and set the scene for their final year of primary school.
Attending camp will be Mrs Mara Pangallo, Mr Chris Evans, Mrs Elizabeth Fryer and Mr Greg Walker. I look forward to attending this camp with our students and staff and seeing the students interact together and enjoy the experience.
Year 6 students received their leadership badges at our school assembly last Friday morning. They are all school leaders at Rosary and have already started to undertake a variety of leadership roles around the school. We will all support and encourage them on this journey as leaders I look forward to the way in which they make Rosary School a great place for everyone in 2023.
High Impact Teaching Practice (HITP) Coaching Continues
Our focus on High Impact Teaching Strategies (HITP) continues again in 2023. Last week our HITP coach visited Rosary and he brought a teacher from Queensland to demonstrate explicit teaching strategies used in her school and classroom. The day was very worthwhile and provided the opportunity for more collaborative discussions around how students learn best and our approach to pedagogy.
Parent Teacher Learning Conferences (Week 6)
In Week 6 this term parents and carers will be invited to attend a parent teacher learning conference with their child’s teacher. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss how your child is progressing academically in Term One. It is an opportunity to set some goals together for their learning for the remainder of Semester One. Details about how to book your conference times will be coming to you through your compass notifications.
Parent Teacher Personalised Plan Meetings (Weeks 5-7)
Between Week 5 and Week 7 this term parents and carers with a child on a Personalised Plan (PP) will be invited to a meeting with their child's class teacher. These are important meetings to be conducted at this time of the year and do take the place of the upcoming parent teaching learning conferences. Again, attending these meetings will provide the opportunity to collaboratively set goals for your child for Semester One. These meetings will be held on different days to the other conferences.
You are strongly encouraged to attend the appropriate meeting with your child’s teacher. There is no need to attend both meetings.

I have reinforced this with students this week.

Last week some students may have received an unsigned BEST Award. My apologies to those children. Students affected are most welcome to bring their awards back into school and I will happily sign them.
Have a great week ahead.

February 26 - Sunday 1 LENT (yearaprayingwithchildren.org)
ASH WEDNESDAY LITURGY
On Wednesday the students participated in a liturgy for Ash Wednesday at Holy Rosary Church. During the liturgy the students received ashes in the form of a cross on their forehead. The ashes remind us that we should make some changes in our lives and follow Jesus more closely.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. It is a time for spiritual growth and change as Christians make a special effort to be the kind of people God wants them to be. During this time, we model and encourage prayer, going without and helping others.
PROJECT COMPASSION
Spanning across the six weeks of Lent, Project Compassion brings thousands of schools, parishes and supporters together to raise funds for the most marginalised communities around the world. By donating to Project Compassion, you will be helping empower our world’s most vulnerable communities to grow stronger and share their strengths with their communities to lift themselves out of poverty.
Every class has a Project Compassion box for donations.
Please give generously.
Peace and best wishes

Reminder
This is a reminder that the Swimming Carnival entry details and permission slips are due WEEK 5: TUESDAY 28 FEBRUARY. The Swimming Carnival for the whole school is Week 7: Friday 17 March. It is a requirement that all students attend this day, as it is a compulsory school day.
Please be aware that if your child’s note is not returned by the due date, they will be placed in the novelty events only (Year 2-6 only). Please also note that children can withdraw from races but cannot enter additional races on the day, so please discuss options and choose carefully to avoid disappointment.
Volunteers/Spectators
Spectators are welcome to come and support the students. Unfortunately, we will be unable to give you a time that your child/ren will be racing due to changes that may occur throughout the day.
Every year we rely on the generosity of our wonderful community to help run our carnivals. The swimming carnival cannot proceed without volunteers. Thank you to those people who have already registered their interest to volunteer. The committee will contact you regarding your role on the day. Please note that the Working with Vulnerable People Act requires all people who wish to help at school (carnivals, excursions, in class etc.) to be registered.Your WWVP card must be in date and be carried with you on the day of the carnival.
We look forward to the opportunity to have our students back in the water at Dickson Pool. Fingers crossed for a warm day.
Kind regards,
Elizabeth Fryar (Sports Coordinator) and The Swimming Committee
The school counsellor, is available every Thursday and Friday.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Hilde.
Aero Club has started back for 2023 with a wonderful presentation from Mr Peter Ederle, our previous school janitor. He was invited to showcase two of his over 25 remote controlled aeroplanes and helicopters. Since his retirement, Peter has continued his seven year association with our school- sharing his passion and expertise with students who enjoy participating in our Aero Club at lunchtimes in the Library. Congratulations to Thien Vu and two other year six students who have made it their mission to mentor younger students in the use of our flight simulation computer program.

Applications must be submitted and received prior to the end of February 2023 in order to be assessed.
