Dear Parents and Friends,
I herewith repeat the information that was emailed to parents yesterday. If you did not receive the email, please let the front office know so that we are sure to have the correct contact details on file.
Thank you for your support over the past few weeks as we have transitioned to remote learning as part of the ACT’s health response to COVID-19.
Following advice from the ACT Government and Chief Health Officer, remote learning will continue for all Catholic Education primary school students during the first four weeks of Term 4 which begins on Tuesday 5 October.
Catholic Education will be working over the school holidays to develop further plans for a phased return to on-campus learning in Term 4 when it is safe to do so. Any plans will, of course, be completely subject to health advice; including in relation to case numbers and vaccination rates.
Whilst this news is disappointing, the Chief Health Officer has made this decision based on what we know about the COVID-19 outbreak in our community.
The health and safety of students, staff and families is our number one priority.
During remote learning, our school will continue to remain open for children who need to attend school. Those students will be supervised as they access the same remote learning program as their classmates.
Please remember the most important thing you can do is support your child’s wellbeing. Keep in mind that children can express their feelings in many ways. I encourage you to speak openly with your children about how they are feeling but keeping in mind that your reassurance and positivity will be important to them.
If your child requires extra help and assistance, counselling is available through CatholicCare. To access the service, a booking request may be made by contacting (02) 6162 6100.
You can keep up to date with the latest health information and advice on the ACT’s COVID-19 website www.covid19.act.gov.au
Please contact me if you have any feedback about remote learning, or if you have any concerns.
I hope your family will be able to spend some time together relaxing during the upcoming school holidays. I send best wishes and prayers for good health and wellbeing,
FUN PHYSICAL FRIDAY
As we enter into the holiday period, we are making the last day of term a Fun Physical Day! The students will participate in Class Online Meetings as per the usual schedule and can come dressed in the colours of their favourite football team, soccer team, netball team or whatever sporting attire they choose. They are also encouraged to participate in some form of physical activity during the day but this will not be prescribed by the teachers.
There will be no new work or activities posted on this day as it will be an opportunity for students to finish off anything that they have not yet completed. At the very end of the day on Friday, teachers will archive their activities but these can still be accessed at any time - students just have to go into the archive folder to find them there.
From 2pm this coming Friday, students and families will be able to access the Performance Assembly via Clickview. The recording will be available over the weekend so that families can watch at any time that suits the household. A link to access the Performance Assembly will be sent to all families via email at 2pm on Friday 17th September when the video becomes available. The link will be also be made available to students, at the same time, via Google Classroom and Seesaw. I hope that this virtual event will bring many smiles to faces and provide a little light relief as we come to the end of a stressful term.
Sincere condolences are extended to the Reid family on the loss of Harley’s maternal grandfather, Alex Turbin. Harley was particularly close to his grandfather, not only because he was a wonderful man but because he was also his personal coach in discus and shot-put. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten. May Alex rest now in eternal peace and may the family be comforted by the fond memories they share.
I take this opportunity to thank all parents for the wonderful support of the students and the school over the term; and especially during this challenging time of remote learning! I hope that everyone will have an opportunity to refresh the mind, body and soul over the holiday break and pray that all families stay safe and well. Despite the difficulties of this time, we have much to be thankful for and must remember to count our blessings every day.
Thought for the Week:
Class Structure 2022
Rosary has seen a rise in enrolments over the past year with many families expressing a desire to become part of our community. This is a wonderful affirmation for our school and we have been pleased to welcome many newcomers this year. Consequently, I am pleased to inform parents that Rosary School has received approval to expand to 14 classes next year which means that the multi-age structure will revert to a single year level structure and the school will be 2 stream across the board. The average class size will be 23.6 students.
Therefore, the structure of classes across the school will be as follows for the 2022 school year:
2 x Kindergarten classes
2 x Year One classes
2 x Year Two classes
2 x Year Three classes
2 x Year Four classes
2 x Year Five classes
2 x Year Six classes
Swimming Program Term 4
Unfortunately, the two-week swimming program in which the whole school usually participates in Term 4 of each year, has again been cancelled. Due to the restrictions in place to manage COVID-19, the AIS has advised us that they have cancelled all School Program bookings. In place of the water-based program, we will be delivering a dry-land water safety program to all students in Term 4 this year. It is hoped that this program will, at least, provide students with the basic skills to stay safe in and around water. We feel that this is especially important in the lead up to the Summer holiday period.
